Where Dreams Meet History: Welcome to Down East Comfort
Dear Guest,
Growing up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, I was mesmerized by the grand, historic homes that graced the city. Their craftsmanship, timeless décor, and undeniable charm sparked my imagination—I longed to know the stories behind those elegant front doors. From an early age, I dreamt of one day owning a home like that and sharing its magic with others through a cozy, welcoming bed and breakfast.
Like so many East Coasters, I ventured away for career opportunities, eventually settling in Ontario, where I spent over 20 years. It was there that I met Larry—another East Coaster—who quickly stole my heart. We married in Miramichi in 2007 and built a wonderful life together, but no matter where we traveled, our hearts always longed for home.
In 2019, after a corporate restructuring left me at a crossroads, I saw an opportunity to turn my lifelong dream into reality. By then, my dream had become Larry’s as well, and together, we decided to take a leap of faith. We knew Miramichi was where we wanted to be—close to family and full of rich history and warmth. And then there was the house.
For years, I admired this beautiful yellow home from afar, always asking Larry to “drive by my yellow house” whenever we visited. Owning it felt like an impossible dream—until the day it became ours. It was then I truly realized: dreams don’t just happen by chance, they happen by choice.
Down East Comfort is more than just a home; it’s a tribute to the spirit of the East Coast. Each of our guest suites is named after the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, and in the spring of 2025, we proudly expanded to include the Newfoundland and Labrador guest apartment—housed in the home’s former servants’ quarters. With deep family roots across the Maritimes, we designed each space to reflect the beauty, warmth, and heritage of the place we call home.
We invite you to step inside, experience a taste of down east charm, and become part of our story.
Until we meet,
Natasha
